Even streaks across the car windshield, could not obscure, would not conceal,
The postcard scene out on the horizon, that, I could not believe, would not forget.
Snow capped peaks that shone, and valleys full of shadow,
A mountain range appeared in what used to be a meadow.

They towered up before us, and encircled all around,
The splendor of the Rockies in our flat West Texas town.
The wind would soon expose this cloudy camouflage,
But we could see the secret beauty in our mountaintop mirage.

I’m sure to God all mountains are like clouds, easily raised up, easily brought down,
But my faith remains much too small, easily swayed, and easily awed.
What if this illusion had turned out to be true,
Then would more have claimed that God provided us this view?

Chorus

One hard as a rock, one soft as a feather,
Now I know this miracle was more than just the weather.
