We were watching over the flocks, when piercing through the night,
Came an angel of the Lord, and we were blinded by the light.
He told us of a barn where laid a king in infancy.
The Anointed One from God, who was here to set us free.

Everyone cried out, "Let’s go and see this child,
We’ll leave the little one back here, to watch our sheep awhile."
But I knew that I must go, so I followed close behind,
Walking towards that star, and admiring how it shined.

The world didn’t know that the King was waiting there,
They didn’t know why He had come or the load He had to bear.
They all told me to stay, but He longed for me to come,
And if I’d stayed behind, I would have missed God’s Only Son.

Many years later, I heard rumors of a man,
Raised over in Nazareth, but born in Bethlehem.
He was preaching ‘bout His kingdom, though it wasn’t what I’d thought,
He never spoke of war, only matters of the heart.

While most dismissed His healings as magic in disguise,
I wanted to find Him, and look again into His eyes.
He was more than just a prophet, as I recalled that glorious night,
This baby from the stable, that could give eternal life.

Chorus

I knelt down beneath him, with His arms open wide,
While darkness somehow overtook the sun.
I can’t explain why that my feeling when he died,
Was that somewhere a mighty vict’ry had been won.

Last Chorus:
The world doesn’t know that the King is waiting there.
They don’t know why He came or the load He had to bear.
They’ll all tell you to stay, but He longs for you to come.
And if you stay behind, you might miss God’s Only Son.
